Presidential train offers a unique experience

The Presidential Train has opened for the 2024 season. The first passengers have had the chance to enjoy a unique, memorable experience on board a real museum piece.

The round trip between Porto - São Bento Station and Vargelas was marked by a combination of luxury, refinement, exclusivity, good food, fine wine and the beautiful landscapes of the Douro.

Participants also had the privilege of paying an exclusive visit to Quinta de Vargelas - the birthplace of Taylor's wines - and tasting its famous Ports, whiach are recognised because of their quality and excellence. They also witnessed the fiery opening of a Vintage Port in an unforgettable ritual.

This project brings together CP - Comboios de Portugal, the National Railway Museum Foundation and Chef Chakall. The Presidential Train 2024 promises to be a mobile ambassador for the Douro, bringing the soul, food, wine and stories of this unique region into its carriages. The mission is to ensure every passenger travels through the Douro and experiences, feels and lives the region in all its dimensions.

The immersive journeys in this veritable museum on rails continue this weekend and will be repeated on 17, 18, 24, 25, 30 and 31 May. On board, passengers can savour dishes, prepared by Chef Chakall, that reflect the rich cuisine of the Douro, with each trip featuring a main course prepared by a local chef, renowned for his or her speciality and not for the glamour of the restaurant.
