Passes and free travel for young people
Young people aged 4 to 23 inclusive can top up their pass for free on CP to travel on Porto, Lisbon, and Coimbra urban trains, as well as Regional and InterRegional trains.
Students up to the age of 24 enrolled in integrated study programmes, such as Architecture and Urbanism, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Medicine, Dentistry, and Veterinary Medicine, are also covered.
Young people aged 25 or under also get 25% off the CP Pass for Lisbon urban trains (1 or 2 zones), Porto urban trains, Coimbra urban trains and Regional/InterRegional trains.
They can also take advantage of the Green Rail Pass.

Beneficiaries
- Young people aged 4 to 23 (until the last day of the month in which they turn 24).
- Higher education students up to and including the age of 24, attending courses with an integrated study cycle, namely Architecture and Urbanism, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Medicine, Dental Medicine and Veterinary Medicine.
Each young person can only request one free pass and cannot benefit from more than one ticket at the same time.
Where it can be used
The Pass can be issued for use on Lisbon Urban Trains, Porto Urban Trains, Coimbra Urban Trains and Regional/InterRegional Trains and for travelling:
- in a Metropolitan Area (Lisbon or Porto),
- in an Intermunicipal Community,
- in a Metropolitan Area adjacent to an Intermunicipal Community*,
- or in two contiguous Intermunicipal Communities, providing that you live and study or work in neighbouring regions.
*If they want to use the train to travel between an Intermunicipal Community (CIM) and the Lisbon Metropolitan Area, they must opt for free travel on the CP Pass or the Passe Navegante ticket, as each young person cannot benefit from free travel on more than one ticket at the same time.
If they want to use the train to travel between the Porto Metropolitan Area and an Intermunicipal Community (CIM) or to travel between two neighbouring CIMs, they must provide:
- Proof of habitual residence (from the Tax Authority portal),
- Proof of enrolment in a national educational establishment, valid for the current academic year or of address of place of work.

Requisition
For new members, depending on the service they want to use, they can request the card, bearing the cost of the card:
- Lisbon urban trains - Go to a CP ticket office to request the Navegante Card. The Navegante card can also be requested here or at Navegante APP and delivered to your home.
- Porto urban trains - Go to a CP ticket office to request the Andante Card or the CP Card. The CP Card can also be requested here using the digital mobile key, provided it is intended for travel exclusively within the Porto Metropolitan Area or within one Intermunicipal Community. If you wish to travel between the Porto Metropolitan Area and an adjacent Intermunicipal Community, or between two adjacent Intermunicipal Communities, you must request the Card at a CP ticket office and provide proof that you live and study or work in neighboring regions.
- Coimbra urban trains, Regional and InterRegional Trains - Go to a CP ticket office to request a CP Card, or request it here using the digital mobile key if it is intended for travel exclusively within one Intermunicipal Community. If you wish to travel between two adjacent Intermunicipal Communities, you must request the Card at a CP ticket office and provide proof that you live and study or work in neighboring regions.
Specific documentation
- Present the Citizen's Card as proof of age.
- From 4 to 23 years old - They are exempt from presenting a declaration of enrolment at a school.
- Students between the ages of 23 and 24, attending courses with an integrated study cycle - Must provide proof of enrolment at a national educational establishment, valid for the current academic year.
Foreign citizens who do not have a Portuguese NIF (tax identification number) must request one from the Tax Authority. Without this information, the card cannot be issued.
Validity and top-up
The card will be valid for a maximum of 4 years, until the end of the month in which the person turn 24 or 25 (in the case of higher education students attending courses with an integrated study cycle, namely Architecture and Urbanism, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Medicine, Dentistry and Veterinary Medicine).
- Navegante Card - For travelling on Lisbon urban trains
The navegante® App and the New Automatic Vending Machines also now allow people to top up the free Youth Card, so they can avoid queues or unnecessary journeys.
Beneficiaries
Young people up to the age of 25 (until the last day of the month in which they turn 25).

- Coimbra urban trains;
- Regional/InterRegional trains.
Requisition
The CP Youth Pass is loaded onto the CP Card and can be requested at any CP station with a sales office.

To travel on Lisbon urban trains, the Youth subscription can be loaded onto the Navegante Card.
Passengers who have a Navegante card with a Normal profile and want to change it to a Youth profile, so that they can load the CP Youth Pass, do not need to apply for a new card. All they have to do is visit the Customer Assistance Office in Rossio, Oriente or Cais do Sodré to update their profile. This operation is only valid for Navegante cards issued by CP, and it cannot be performed on cards from other operators.

Top-up
The CP Pass can be topped up on any day of the month and is valid for 30 consecutive days from the date of the sale or the date chosen for the start of validity (up to 8 days after the purchase date).
The top-up slip must be kept until the end of the ticket's validity.
