CP - Comboios de Portugal has been short-listed for the Transport Ticketing Awards 2025, with the Green Rail Pass project, in the ‘Best Equity and Inclusion Initiative’ category. The winners will be announced on 4 March at a gala in London, during Transport Ticketing Global 2025, an event that is one of the biggest in the field of ticketing for transport and mobility.
The ‘Best Equity and Inclusion Initiative’ category aims to recognise an idea that promotes inclusion in public transport and helps make transport services accessible to all, and can include new service offers and ways to help customers access public transport, innovative fare structures or ticketing methods, marketing campaigns, community/demand-responsive transport and ideas that make passengers' journeys easier to plan and enjoy.
The Green Rail Pass, launched in October 2024, was applied for by CP because it is a pass that aims to simplify the fare system, allowing access to various types of services. This means travelling has become simpler and more inclusive, making mobility open to even more people. It also promotes sustainability and territorial cohesion, increases the competitiveness of public transport and works as a global solution because it doesn't limit its use to specific services or regions. In the first three month, CP sold more than 100,000 passes, which validates this measure and attracts passengers to decarbonised public transport, as successful.
CP is among the 11 finalists in this category, and after being shortlisted, the projects will be assessed by a jury at this international benchmark event.
CP's chairman said that the Green Rail Pass reinforced CP's commitment to sustainability and territorial cohesion, encouraging more and more citizens to opt for rail transport. ‘CP wants to offer solutions that improve our customers' experience and reaffirm rail transport as the best option for reducing the ecological footprint by providing accessible, comfortable journeys.
The Green Rail Pass has encouraged more passengers to choose the train when travelling, strengthening the idea of quality, economical and sustainable public transport for all,’ said Pedro Moreira. ‘Being short-listed for this award, at one of the most important events in the ticketing area, is recognition of the effort, professionalism and commitment of CP's employees in making this pass a reality,’ he says.
