CP train services suspended between Cais do Sodré and Algés
As part of the ongoing modernisation works on the Cascais Line and the expansion of the Metropolitano de Lisboa network, on the weekends of 24-25 February and 2-3 March CP trains will be suspended on the Cascais Line between Cais do Sodré and Algés. Lisbon Metro trains will not be affected.
Given the need to ensure the service and minimise the impact of the work, which is taking place in phases and mostly at night and on weekends, this suspension of CP trains running between Cais do Sodré and Algés will start at 11 p.m. on 23 February and end at 2 a.m. on 26 February. The following weekend, the suspension will be the same, starting at 11 p.m. on 1 March and ending at 2 a.m. on 4 March.
The interruptions on these two weekends are related to the construction of the Circular Line of the Lisbon Metro, which involves the construction of a new tunnel to connect the new Santos station to the current Cais do Sodré station, which will be carried out using an open excavation technique, a situation that will involve making provisional changes to the route of the Cascais Line.
Given the type of site, this is an area of the city with a number of technical and infrastructural challenges, including underground work, which require the safest and most rigorous intervention that will not be compatible with the movement of CP trains.
These works are also related to the construction of a new concourse (west) at the Cais do Sodré Metro station, with two direct surface accesses to the CP platform, which will increase the flow of customers from the Cais do Sodré Interface, where Metro, CP, CARRIS and Transtejo operate, with all the advantages of fluidity and safety, improving the quality of the service provided and increasing intermodality between the various transport operators.
In addition to the replacement bus services provided by CP, as part of the modernisation works on the Cascais Line, Metropolitano de Lisboa, CP, IP, CARRIS and other transport operators, in conjunction with Lisbon City Council, will implement some measures to minimise the constraints that the suspension of the CP service on the two weekends mentioned above will cause their customers:
Journey times on the replacement bus service may vary depending on traffic conditions. Between Cais do Sodré and Algés, there is no guaranteed connection to the scheduled trains, except for the last train of the night, departing from Algés at 2.05. CP buses will be signalled and equipped with access ramps for people with reduced mobility. , and bicycles will not be allowed. The replacement bus service cannot carry bicycles. Small pets can be taken if the animal is in an appropriate container that can be carried as hand luggage.
