Unforgettable journeys on the Historical Christmas Steam Train are about to begin

Starting on 13 December, between Porto and Ermesinde, with entertainment for the whole family.

The Historical Steam Train is back, decorated with traditional Christmas lights and magic, promising to transport passengers of all ages on a journey through time between Porto and Ermesinde. Starting on 13 December 2025 and running until 4 January 2026, on Saturdays and Sundays, CP – Comboios de Portugal, in partnership with Valongo Municipal Council, invites children and adults to embark on a unique experience, full of nostalgia, entertainment and Christmas spirit.

Travelling aboard a steam locomotive and historic carriages guarantees a truly fascinating atmosphere. Add to that the sound of the whistle, the steam in the air, and the unmistakable vibration of the train, which will transport passengers to other eras. At the same time, lights, colours, and elves enliven the journey as biscuits from the municipality of Valongo are handed out.

In Ermesinde, travellers can visit the Christmas Village and admire the country's largest Christmas tree, 55 metres high and decorated with thousands of LED lights, installed in the Urban Park, just a few steps from the station.

Departures are from Porto - São Bento and Ermesinde, with four daily services available on Saturdays and Sundays (timetables can be found here).

A single ticket costs €13 for adults and €6.50 for children aged 4 to 12. The ticket for the Historical Steam Train also allows you to travel on Porto urban trains on the same day. Tickets can be purchased at CP ticket offices, in person or online (at www.cp.pt).
