Presidential train

It's more than just a journey; it's an immersive experience in a museum on rails.

This is a joint project by CP - Comboios de Portugal, the National Railway Museum Foundation and Chef Chakall in a celebration of Portugal's railway history, turning a museum piece into a dynamic, interactive experience. It's an invitation to magic.

The Presidential Train, which is the property of the National Railway Museum, was built in 1890. It has carried heads of state over a century and is one of the museum's most iconic relics of railway history in Portugal.

Note: The 2025 edition is closed. As soon as possible, we'll release information about the next edition. 

  • Reception at the emblematic Porto São Bento Station;
  • Train leaves;
  • On the journey you can taste the best wines from Douro estates, each of which showcases the best of its production;
  • Savour dishes prepared by Chef Chakall that reflect the rich cuisine of the Douro, with each trip featuring a main course prepared by a local chef renowned for his speciality;
  • Stories of the train, the Douro and the places the train passes through will be shared, while you can enjoy an enchanting atmosphere with live music;
  • Arrive at Ferradosa Station;
  • At Museu do Vinho de S. João da Pesqueira, a unique experience awaits you;
  • Departure from Ferradosa Station;
  • While the Douro landscapes parade past your window, savour an exclusive selection of the region's best wines;
  • You can accompany this tasting with typical Douro specialities, from traditional sweets to the finest sausages and cheeses, in an authentic celebration of local flavours;
  • Arrival back in Porto São Bento.

Bookings for groups:

  • The voucher must be presented to board the Presidential Train;
  • Vouchers for use on the Presidential Train are only valid for tha train, day and routethey have been issued for and cannot be changed or refunded;
  • Passengers will receive a full refund if CP has to cancel the journey.
