Vouga Historical Train - Christmas Special

Travel through the magic of Christmas, from Aveiro to Macinhata do Vouga.

Let yourself be carried away by time on this journey along the only narrow-gauge railway line in operation in Portugal and board one of the five carriages from the early 20th century, pulled by the historic 9000 series diesel locomotive.

The Vouga Historical Train takes you from Aveiro to Macinhata do Vouga, where you can visit the Macinhata do Vouga Railway Museum.

On the way back, in Águeda, you can visit the various Christmas-related initiatives, including the World's Largest and Smallest Santa Claus: the first, about 21 metres high and illuminated with more than 250,000 LEDs, and the second, a nano-structure by artist Willard Wigan, which can only be seen through a microscope!

Outward

  • Departure from Aveiro at 1:45 p.m. and arrival in Macinhata do Vouga at 2:59 p.m;
  • Train illuminated and decorated with Christmas motifs;
  • Entertainment during the trip with elves;
  • Local entertainment upon arrival in Macinhata do Vouga and a complimentary Águeda pastry;
  • Christmas fair with exhibition and sale of regional products;
  • Guided tour of the Macinhata do Vouga Railway Museum, with entertainment.

Return

  • Departure from Macinhata do Vouga at 4:40 p.m;
  • Arrival at 5:02 p.m. in Águeda, with a free or guided tour of the city streets, watching the lights come on and seeing the various Christmas initiatives; such as the World's Largest and Smallest Santa Claus, and the streets with illuminated umbrellas (the famous Umbrella Sky):
  • Departure from Águeda at 7:20 p.m. and arrival in Aveiro at 8:07 p.m.
