The Minho line runs close to part of the Atlantic coast and the banks of the River Minho, meaning that several beaches are just a short distance from the stations. Whether for a dip at beaches such as Moledo, Vila Praia de Âncora, Afife or Cabedelo, or simply to stroll along the sand, a trip to these unmissable spots is always the perfect excuse to take your next train journey and visit picturesque towns.

Discover some of Portugal’s most beautiful beaches, located in the municipalities of Viana do Castelo, Vila Nova de Cerveira and Caminha, and board the Intercidades, Regional or InterRegional trains for a journey of leisure and relaxation, accompanied by local traditions and cuisine.

Lenta beach

Flanked by lush greenery, this river beach offers natural shade and a peaceful atmosphere, complemented by a unique landscape and excellent water quality. It is accessible from Vila Nova de Cerveira station and is the ideal destination for those seeking peace and tranquillity, with facilities and a natural setting that blends the coastal landscape with the lush beauty of the Minho region.

Moledo beach

It is one of the most famous beaches in Portugal, particularly those in the north of the country. Easily accessible and very close to Moledo train station, this beach stands out for its long stretch of sand and its scenic beauty, enhanced by the Mata do Camarido woodland. Moledo beach offers a unique view of the famous Ínsua Fort and Monte de Santa Tecla in Galicia. Its natural conditions, with strong winds and waves, make this beach a unique spot for water sports, whilst also offering facilities for walking and moments of socialising and leisure.

Vila Praia de Âncora beach

Where the Atlantic meets the River Âncora. With the Âncora-Praia station nearby, this beach is characterised by its natural beauty, extensive sandy shore and preserved dunes. There are areas of strong waves and others with calmer waters, Vila Praia de Âncora beach and its surroundings offer the perfect setting for walks, socialising and relaxation, as well as sporting activities, as it provides excellent conditions for surfing, bodyboarding and windsurfing.

Norte beach

Served by Viana do Castelo station, the Norte beach stands out for its central location, accessibility and uniqueness, as well as its rocky landscape and rich biodiversity. Very close to the city centre, Praia Norte, with its saltwater pools and sandy beach, is the ideal spot for anyone looking to spend a day or late afternoon by the sea, whether for a swim or simply a stroll.

Cabedelo beach

One of the most beautiful in the region, this crescent-shaped beach is flanked by dunes, pine forests and campsites. It is served by the Areia-Darque station and is also well-known for water sports, particularly surfing, bodyboarding and windsurfing.

Afife beach

Its sandy shore stretches almost as far as the eye can see, connected by wooden walkways, it stands out for its excellent conditions and the swell, offering surfers the ideal conditions for the sport. This beach is served by Afife station.
