In 2025, the waste recovery rate stood at 75.3%. CP carries out the separation, sorting and temporary storage of the waste produced, for onward transfer to external organisations licensed to manage waste streams and certified to ISO 14001.

Portugal’s waste management policy is framed by European directives and national legislation, aiming to promote environmental sustainability, a circular economy, and the reduction of waste impact on the environment.
